Good morning, crafty people! I’m excited to share one of two new releases from Purple Onion Designs and Shari Bresciani. Also, Purple Onion Designs is celebrating their 17 year anniversary with an amazing sale for you!
I did my first card for this release with my sweet nephew in mind. I miss him and he has his 14th birthday coming up, so I thought these stamps would be perfect for a birthday card for a young man.
To begin, I stamped onto masking paper and cut out masks for the three stamps. For the Tropical Island I cut out the water ring around the island because I knew I want to use darker ink outside of it and lighter ink inside of it. Next, using a transparency film to align, I stamped images onto a 5″ x 7″ panel of Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock. I then applied all of the remaining masks and grabbed some Distress Oxide Inks to ink the background. Before I did that, I used a circle die on masking paper for a moon.
Distress Oxide Colors: Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac, Seedless Preserves, Blueprint Sketch, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot.
Before removing the masks, I covered the water with a sheet of paper, so it wouldn’t get hit when I splattered Distress Paint – Picket Fence on the sky. I gave it 10 minutes to dry and then removed the masks.
Next, I used Copic to color everything:
- Clothes: B97, B95, B93, B91. C3, C1. E44, E43, E41.
- Skin: E01, E11, E13
- Rock: C5, C3, C1
- Sand: E55, E53, E51, E50
- Map: E53, E50, E40
- Dog: E57, E55, E53, E51
- Palm Tree: E49, E47, E44, E41. G99, G96, G20
- Water (light water, a bit of shading): B93, B91
- Moon: C3, C1, 0
After coloring, I used (a lot!) of white gel pen for highlights, additional stars, and foam on the water. The tip for the water is to dot-dot-dot and stamp it with your finger when it’s wet to lighten and smudge it, and then dot-dot-dot it again and leave those ones to dry. My fingers were a train wreck after this card. 😉
To finish I cut the panel down a bit and adhered it to a 5″ x 7″ white card base. I embellished with Studio Katia Icy Sparkle Crystals in the sky. I love how this turned out and I hope my nephew likes it too!
Be sure to visit the Purple Onion store and check out the entire release. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you on the next project!
